Cleanups & Events

PMBC schedules Clean Block events on Saturdays throughout the spring and summer. To find out about participating in cleaning your area, please contact your PMBC Clean Block Officer at (215) 685-3981.

Some of the things you should know about Clean Block events:

  • All debris should be bagged and placed at either end of the block to help collection.

  • No bulk or household trash will be collected during the Saturday Clean-up Program.

  • Do not sweep trash or dirt into inlets/storm drains.

  • Streets should not be blocked off with parked cars during cleaning.

Philly Spring Cleanup

Started in 2008 and recognized by Keep America Beautiful as the largest single-day, citywide cleanup in the U.S., the Philly Spring Cleanup is the City’s annual kickoff event of the cleaning season. Residents, civic organizations, businesses, and nonprofits all work together to remove litter, beautify blocks, and spruce up shared spaces like parks, gardens, and recreation centers.

Since then, the Cleanup has managed to grow each year both in size and scope—evolving beyond cleaning and debris removal to beautification projects with longer-lasting effects. And it shows no signs of slowing down. The 10th anniversary event in April 2017 was the largest to date but is still just a great start. We need to keep it up all year long!

Block Captain Rally

Each year, The Philadelphia Streets Department kicks off another season of keeping our neighborhoods clean with the annual Block Captain Rally. This year's event is a great opportunity to acknowledge our Block Captains for the hard work they do all year long. As always, their commitment and dedication are recognized by the Mayor, City Council, and the Streets Commissioner. More than just a celebration, the Rally also features workshops that keep Block Captains up to date about the City's plans for a cleaner Philadelphia.

Jr. Block Captain Fun Day

Each June PMBC celebrates and recognizes the next generation of Block Captains with a fun-filled day of games, entertainment, play, and prizes! Please contact your Clean Block Officer to learn more about this year’s event.
